Everyone Needs an Exit Strategy!
Why do you need an exit strategy, especially if you love your current job?
Unfortunately a job for life is no longer a reality for any of us. Companies are constantly evolving and the position that might be your dream job today, could be a job from hell, or may not even exist in as little as 6 months from now. Of course we hope this will not happen, but it is essential that you are always prepared to land on your feet.
- Due to unforeseen circumstances, your position may simply disappear
- A company reshuffle might mean you are moved into a different job that you do not enjoy or feel confident doing.
- Due to economic circumstances, the company you work for might have to lay people off, and you find yourself in the firing line.
- Again due to circumstances as the company downsizes and other jobs disappear,
your position may absorb more and more tasks and you may find you can no longer cope with your workload.
- The manager you like today, may be replaced by someone you find completely unreasonable in the future.
- You may simply decide you are ready for a new and more challenging position
According to a poll conducted by CareerPath.com, 40% of the 1,400 workers surveyed said that they planned to change jobs within a year. Of this group, only around 20% had an exit strategy.
- Four teleconference meetings
