According to a study of 2,900 employees in five industries by ISR (International Survey Research), a Chicago-based employee-search and consulting firm, one of the reasons women generally aren't occupying the top executive suites of corporations is that they tend not to embrace the art of self-promotion. Men, however, do quite well at pumping themselves up as assets to a corporation.
Many executive-level women place a premium on the "communal" aspects of the workplace. They value working relationships, customer quality, and communication above all else.
In contrast, men in similar positions are driven more by what's at stake for them personally. They tend to rate career development, compensation, and a balanced workload as the things that will keep them committed to an organization.
Women tend to concentrate on understanding line operations, profit and loss, and everything about running the company. They put their career development on the back burner.
Men who have developed a strategic plan for their careers tend to get the best jobs, which leaves women feeling disempowered. And if women don't feel empowered, they will find it very difficult to be successful.
It is, therefore, essential that women start to think strategically about themselves.
Krissy Jackson is the Number One coach in the world today for women in IT and communications professions around the world. She understands their unique issues and what it takes to succeed in these very demanding careers. She has developed DESIGN YOUR CAREER, a personalized job promotion program that has resulted in job promotions and career success for everyone who has gone through it.
Hi, my name is Krissy Jackson.
Before I explain how I can help you design or even redesign your career and get your next promotion, let me tell you why I decided to create this program.
When I first began coaching, I worked with both men and women. I noticed many differences in the ways they approached their careers.
Men focused more on the BIG picture. Also, the way they approached things on a day-to-day basis was different. Networking and relationship building were done with a clear, future goal in mind.
Women, on the other hand, placed more importance on building the relationship and what happened after that ... well, it just happened.
I'm not advocating that women become like men. I'm advocating that my clients plan their lives and careers more strategically.
For example, a client of mine was upset about not being taken seriously at work and being passed over for promotion by the "Boys Club," as she referred to her bosses. She was also carrying around baggage from a past relationship that was standing in the way of her progress.
We started right away by uncovering the issues that were standing in the way of her success. I took her through exactly the same steps I will tell you about shortly. The results were nothing short of miraculous! She changed before my very eyes. She was sleeping better, communicating well with her bosses, and even looked and sounded like a different person. Self assured and confident in her role, after only a few sessions, she IM'ed me to say she received the promotion we had been working toward.
At first, even I couldn't believe it could be that easy, so I tried the same process with other clients, and the results were the same. Client after client called me up to share the good news. Within three to six months, all of them were landing great new jobs. Some were internal promotions; others were higher-level, higher-paying positions in new organizations.
The truth is that you don't need to work 18 hours a day or be part of the "Boys Club" to get to the top. Instead, you need a clear strategy that puts you and your best interests first.
You may be wondering, "If it is so simple, why isn't everyone doing this?" The answer is, "Because like you, it never occurred to them that achieving a promotion would be easy. It's that simple -- no more and no less."
The great news is that it's a simple one-time strategy that anyone can master in a matter of weeks. And, once you have, you will never look back.
By the way, before you start to wonder...

According to a recent survey conducted by Tulane University, women who wear short skirts that display a lot of leg may be overlooked for promotion and pay increases. Overt sexual behavior at work, whether colleagues are consciously aware of it or not, can submarine your career.
Have you ever:
Researchers in this survey found that the women who claimed not to have engaged in such sexual behavior had achieved an average of three promotions and earned annual salaries, on average, in the $75,000 to $100,000 income range. Women (50.6% of the study group) who stated that they had engaged in flirting and other overt sexual behavior had only achieved two promotions and earned, on average, $50,000 to $75,000 annually.
Is it time to rethink your strategy? The very first thing we will do when we work together is to observe you. I will help you get the very best for yourself.
We can all agree that many elements go into developing a successful career. But, I've found that really successful women share some fundamental traits and behaviors.
Together we will plan your strategy for long-term success and keep you accountable to your highly do-able goals.
"Krissy managed to help me identify the resources I already had but wasn't seeing. Also, she pushed me to take action in a focused way, which means I had to DO things if I wanted to achieve want I needed. Actually, I've always been a very active person, however, I was procrastinating right there where I most needed a change."

"I was stuck in a rut, motivation lagging. I signed up for coaching with Krissy not expecting her to understand really, but she did! She understood completely and made excellent practical suggestions, which I've been using ever since. She gave the problem clarity that I couldn't have done on my own, and I've been much happier and more productive since."

There is one thing I would like you to remember. Our hour together each week is just the tip of the iceberg. I don't forget about you when our call is over.
I burn my potatoes at night while cooking because I have dashed to the computer to research something for you. At dinner parties I think about how I can help you when I should be listening to the person beside me. I read books for you in cafes when I should be at home catching up on my ironing. And, sometimes, I even dream about your career when I am sleeping. Now, if you are getting the feeling I am not exactly a domestic goddess, you are completely right. But, my point is that, while you are my client, your success is paramount to me, and I want to do everything I can to ensure that.
Of course, because I am so dedicated to my client's success, I expect the same from you. And, I will end a coaching relationship with anyone who is not prepared to do everything they can to achieve their goals. Having said this, if you would like me to help you design or even redesign your career, I look forward to giving you everything I can to help you along this exciting journey!
YES, Krissy! I'm ready to design my career on my terms. Help me prepare for my next promotion.
